If you think that the Pope is not into fashion you are totally wrong. The big scandal on pedophilia is provoking not only a reflection on values and structure, but even the will to show a more powerful hence elegant Chief of the Catholic Church. The Pope is willing to hold on to his image and recently he is showing even more magnificence in his attires, more velvet, damask, brocades, silk and handmade shoes.
Esquire magazine put him in the list of the "
most elegant men" of the year, and apparently Ratzinger was very happy about it, as he is convinced that the "magic" of a dress can spread God's word in a more effective way. His shoes (like the popular "Prada red" ones) are made by an artisan called
Adriano Stefanelli, who makes shoes for
Bush and Berlusconi too. He has luxury dresses by
Gattinoni, elegant reading glasses, the demi-lune Santos by
Cartier and for the sun he uses mostly a pair of
Serengeti. To dress a Pope is not easy, there are daily/nightly dresses, dresses for ceremonies, for special lunches, for a charity visit. In his wardrobe there are even some -long to the elbow- gloves, with precious embroidery, sandals and small umbrellas full of rich details. How much does it cost to dress a Pope? Of course it is a secret but we bet that each dress is not much less than ten thousand euros.
